AIDS Coalition calls for volunteers
The Northeast Ohio Committee of the Ohio AIDS Coalition is holding its first annual volunteer meeting at the Living Room, April 23 at 1:30 pm.
The Ohio AIDS Coalition is a statewide organization dedicated to offering hope, healing and empowerment to HIV-challenged people throughout Ohio. A holistic approach provides opportunities for healing through a variety of OAC sponsored retreats, educational workshops and other forums.
One of those "other forums" is the OAC retreat weekend, held four times a year at different sites around the state. An OAC weekend provides a chance for people within the spectrum to come together to discuss the many issues that surround HIV/AIDS. Participants not only attend a variety of facilitated workshops, but can also share information about medical treatment, complementary therapies, research updates and life issues. An average of 60-70 people attend each

weekend. Some scholarship assistance is available.
The volunteer meeting will be a chance to discuss the upcoming October weekend, future OAC events and the direction of the OAC here in Northeast Ohio.
The Living Room is located at 1418 W.29 St., next to the Center. Refreshments will be offered. For more information, call Andy at 651-8914, or Daniella at 932-3958. ♡

OAC offers programs for HIV-challenged individuals, their families, friends and caregivers on traditional and non-traditional healing approaches. It provides healing days for on-going support, as well as Healing Weekends. The Coalition helps less populated areas with educational programs and publishes the Wellness Times, a monthly newsletter of AIDS care and information. OAC also sponsors the Columbus Healing Circle, a weekly support group discussing HIV therapies.
The statewide, all volunteer organization faced funding cuts last year. Costs for OAC Healing Weekends have increased while fees for participants have remained constant.
"This year we're expecting quite a large turnout," Walk coordinator Jose Rodriguez said. "We put a lot of time and effort into it,

The lawsuit alleges the policy violates gays' rights to free speech and equal protection under the law and is no better than the outright ban that preceded it.
The plaintiffs are represented by the American Civil Liberties Union and the Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund. Two are on active duty; the rest are reservists. No trial date has been set.
"Today's ruling guarantees that these six individuals will be able to continue serving their country until we have the chance to prove that the law and regulations are unconstitutional," said William Rubenstein, director of the ACLU's Lesbian and Gay Rights Project.
